Liberty Mutual Personal Markets sells auto, property, and specialty lines business through a multi-channel direct operating model. The SBU's strategy focuses on distributing personal lines insurance through affinity relationships and developing best in class countrywide pricing plans and products that are flexible enough to adapt to each state's regulatory and competitive marketplace.

Personal Markets - Product Management Property Research has an opening for an Actuary of Property Risk Analytics/Loss Modeling in the Property Strategic Research group. The group is at the forefront of driving product innovation and price sophistication for the Property product. The position is highly analytical and quantitative in nature and requires experience in Predictive Modeling and a solid understanding of statistical modeling techniques. Comfort with working on large datasets is a must. Supervisory experience is preferred but not required. FCAS or PhD (in a quantitative discipline like Statistics, Mathematics, Economics etc.) is preferred.

Responsibilities:

* Support the business group's profit and growth objectives by establishing the strategy/ objectives for the research group, managing/ performing advanced actuarial analyses and predictive modeling in the areas of Property Pricing, Peril loss modeling etc and by partnering with Underwriting/ Claims/ IT teams in the Personal Markets organization.

* Develop new underwriting and pricing programs to assist meeting SBU goal of being an industry leader in pricing sophistication. Manage the innovation cycle of generating insights, championing ideas, implementing projects and delivering results. Expected to leverage both a) cutting-edge modeling & analysis and b) partnerships with other PM organizations like Claims to generate ideas and insights.

* Lead, coach and mentor a group of highly talented research analysts involved in performing price modeling/ predictive analysis for Property product. Hire top talent and motivate the team to advance the agenda

* Provide consultation to senior managers and underwriting staff on actuarial, financial, and product planning. Manage or participate in analysis & research to identify variables that are predictive of differences in loss costs, retention and conversion. Make recommendations to change pricing and improve risk selection

* Monitor developments in predictive modeling techniques and industry research; Engage with external vendors; Researches laws and regulations; Analyze developments in the marketplace.


Requirements

Qualifications:

* Strong analytical skills with solid understanding of Predictive Modeling/ Statistical techniques (GLM's etc.) and their application to pricing strategies.

* 4 -6 years progressively responsible experience in a Fortune 500 company; P & C Insurance industry experience preferred; Financial services industry experience a must

* Ability to communicate highly analytical and complex ideas to broad spectrum of audience both verbally and orally; Ability to influence Senior Management and partner organizations.

* Knowledge of insurance operations and the procedures of Financial, Underwriting, Claims, Statistical, Information Technology, Legal, and Sales departments is preferred.

* Ability to establish and build effective relationships within and outside the organization.

* Education: FCAS or PhD (in a quantitative discipline) preferred
